Dec09 MOM

Jean-Christophe Kling

This Model of the Month is very special to us.

Not because it’s part of the largest Zometool structure ever built or because it’s beautiful; although both those things are true.

It is special because it was built to memorialize a dear friend whose unexpected and premature passing this spring robbed the world of a rare soul whose geometry, mind and heart were all golden.

He is sorely missed.

The Chris Kling Memorial

Was built in Banff, Canada as part of the Bridges Conferences in August 2009 using over 50,000 parts. The full story and pictures of its construction will be posted on our website next month.

(For a small taste scroll to the bottom).

PLEASE NOTE!

As always, we suggest you view the instruction sequence, using “Phantom Mode” to enhance clarity. Only the parts relevant to a step will be colored, the rest of the model will be grayed out.

You’ll Need a Total of 794 Parts:

Clearly we can’t expect anyone to replicate the whole structure in their living room (wouldn’t fit, right?) But you can get a sweet taste by building a meta-popsicle: a meta-strut + a meta-node (coming next month).

Architect and Zome-Jedi Chris Palmer, (who collaborated closely with Kling) is the author of this model’s Zomepad files; we decided to break-up the project in two. This month we’re publishing the instructions for the meta-strut and next-month we will publish the instructions for the meta-node (and who knows, maybe we’ll include the whole meta-structure just for grins) .

This is a preview of what we’ll be showing in our scrapbook of the Chris Kling memorial project in Banff
