Step 1 - Starburst Scaffolding

Start by filling all the triangular holes in a ball using twenty Super-short Yellow struts [20*Y0s]

TIP: It's a lot easier if you build 20 "popsicles" first (put balls on the ends of 20 Super-short Yellow struts and THEN put all of them into a ball)

Step 3 - Removing Scaffolding

Remove the yellow struts we used as a scaffolding to build our initial Dodeca

Welcome to our June Model of the Month: The MicroHyperdo, a much beloved model which we know you will enjoy.

We strongly recommend viewing the interactive instructions using our free Zomepad Reader software.

Step 2 - Dodecahedron

Connect the dots using thirty Super-short Blue Struts [30*B0s] and find yourself holding a fine Dodecahedron.

PLEASE NOTE!

To enhance clarity, we will be displaying instruction images in “Phantom Mode”. This means that only the parts relevant to that step will be in color and the rest of the model will be grayed out.

Step 4.1 - Fat Red Cell, Step 1

Place five Super-short Yellow struts [5*Y0s] pointing "out" directly from the vertices of a pentagon

Step 4.2 - Fat Red Cell, Step 2

-Now link the outer balls using Super-short Red struts [10*R0s]

Step 4.3 - Fat Red Cell, Step 3

From the "topmost" balls use Super-short Yellows again [5*Y0s], this time pointing inward

Step 4.5 - Fat Red Cells, Completed

You will now repeat steps 4.1 through 4.4 for each pentagonal face in your original Dodecahedron

The result should look like this:

Step 5.2 - Yellow Cell, Step 2

-Then connect the balls with Super-short Blues [3*B0s]

Step 5.3 - Yellow Cell, Step 3

Next create some squashed pentagons by connecting your outer structures using Super-short Yellows [6*Y0s]

Step 5.4 - Yellow Cell, Step 4

Complete your Yellow Cell by connecting the apexes of the squashed pentagons you just built (with yellow tops) using Super-short Reds [3*R0s]

With that you've completed the Yellow Cell.

You’ll Need a Total of

951 Parts:

Step 4.4 - Fat Red Cell, Step 4

Connect the outermost balls with five Super-short Blues [5*B0s]

With this step you will have added a "Fat red cell" to your original Dodeca.

Step 5.1 - Yellow Cell, Step 1

Just like the faces of the original Dodeca were also part of our Fat Red Cell, part of the structure we built for the Fat Red Cell contains portions of the next cell we're going to build: The Yellow Cell

Place Hypershort reds [6*R00s] pointing in towards each other (coming out of the vertices of your blue pentagons) like shown here.

Step 5.5 - Yellow Cell, Completed

Now repeat all around your model.

The result should look like this

Step 6.1 - Thin Red Cell, Step 1

Now for the next cell, the Thin Red Cell, add 5 Hyper-short Reds [5*R00s]

Look closely!, it’s hard to show the 5 little Hyper-short red struts at the same time, they can (barely) be found near the center of the model

Step 6.2 - Thin Red Cell, Step 2

Now connect the balls using [5*B0s] five Super-short Blue struts

Step 6.3 - Thin Red Cell, Completed

Now repeat steps 6.1 and 6.2 all around your model

Behold, The Mighty Hyperdo!

We hope you enjoy your Hyperdo, it is a fantastic model which will provide endless opportunities for contemplation and conversation.

BEFORE YOU START!

These instructions are for the Micro-Hyperdo, which requires super-short struts and hyper-short reds. If you don’t have any you can simply substitute for the next bigger size up. Be warned!, if you don’t have super-short reds (and use R1s) you’ll wind up with a pretty big model!
